You want to start a website and don’t know where to start, you’re in the right place.
To start a website today is easy and accessible to everyone, you need a bit of time and very little money. You only need to do a couple of things and you are online faster than you can say “the world wide web”.
The first thing you need to ask yourself is what kind of website do you want, a blog to express yourself or maybe to post your know-how or other thoughts you may have. Or maybe a presentation website of your small business. Or why not create a small shop where you will to sell your hand made products. Depending on what you want you have multiple options you can take.
A domain name
The domain will represent you and your goal. The Domain is your online identity, people will look for it online and you must make it unique and identifiable. Your name online can be in two forms, one is yoursub.domain.com or yourdomain.com. The first one is free and tools like wordpress.com or tumblr.com can give you one minutes. The second is paid(from $1 to $100/year) and it takes from a couple of hours to days sometimes to be online.
A hosting account
Web hosting is like an unfurnished space you rent where your website files reside and is accessible via the www. This can cost from $1 to hundreds a month.
A CMS(content management system)
CMS’s are online software that helps you publish and organize your content online. They come in many shapes and forms, some are simple and some are enterprise grade. Because this website is about WordPress this is what I suggest you use.
In the next weeks I will tell you more about WordPress and what you can do with it.
